What is growing on my house's roof?
Did you know your roof is not dirty at all, it’s infested. Infested by tiny micro organisms that are dining on your roof like an all you can eat buffet. These Algae, molds, mildews and bacteria are actually decomposing the surfaces they are growing on. Nature uses these tiny micro organisms to break down larger objects into smaller items eventually becoming part of the soil. This is called decomposition. Your roof and other surfaces around your property are being attacked and decomposed right before your very eyes. Those stains on your roof are actually a form of algae known as gloeocapsa magama and they are literally eating your roof. This algae feeds on the limestone granules embedded in your roofs shingles. It thrives on shaded roof exposures, particularly north facing roofs that remain moist due to lack of sunshine. The algae attaches to your roof with a filament root structure that firmly embeds itself into the singles. As the colonies grow; mold, moss and mildew often follow.
What is the Soft Wash roof treatment process?
When our technicians arrive at your home, they will assess your roof and perform a complete inspection of the overall condition. First, we’ll use soft brushes to loosen heavy moss growing on your roof. Second, we’ll use blowers to eliminate any remaining debris on the roof. The next step is our comprehensive gutter cleaning service. Once the roof is prepared, we’ll apply our revolutionary soft wash solution to the entire roof to eradicate all remaining organics: including moss and various roof stains. Will I see immediate differences in my roof?
Yes, and no. Our Soft Wash treatment is sprayed on the roof like a weed killer. The moss is immediately killed but then turns into what looks like little white cotton balls and then we let mother nature run its course. The moss deteriorates off the roof naturally over time with rain and sunshine. However the removal of stains on your roof is immediate and in most cases you will see a new roof you’ve never seen before.
How long does the treatment last?
This treatment not only kills the moss on your roof, it kills all the algae and bacteria that feed the moss. Which means if there is no food source for the moss it will take that much longer to come back, unlike the usual zinc moss treatment that only kills moss. Is it safe for my plants, animals and kids?
The soft wash treatment is a mixture of bleach and water. But we mix the bleach at a very low percentage so it is nonharmful to animals and kids. We’ve taken every precaution to protect your plant life by not over spraying past your gutter line and washing down any plants that were touched with our chemical. When the technician arrives at your home he does a full (review) of your property and takes note of any plants that may need to be sprayed down before we start the soft wash process.
